The spirit is like being

Mein Geist ist wie ein Sein,
My       spirit       is      like     a      being,
     er ahnt dem Wesen nach,
it   has a foreboding of its true nature
Von dem er urgestand
From   which    it primally came to be
     und anfangs ausgebrach.
in      in the beginning   broke forth.
(This is the most untranslatable of Scheffler’s poems. The translation give here is not literal, but only an approximation.)
